Before tools touch the wall

This video does not cover no-drill hardware, clip-in aluminum headrails, or motor and remote setup. Follow the instructions supplied for your exact product.

What the video shows

Mark the bracket positions, secure the L-shaped brackets to the mounting face, align the headrail slots with the bracket bolts, then tighten the nuts while supporting the shade. The final shot shows the shade lowering; it does not demonstrate a motor or remote.

Step 1

Verify the shade, brackets, and mounting surface

  • Confirm the shade belongs to this window and matches the ordered mount and control configuration.
  • Lay out the supplied brackets, fasteners, clips, stops, power parts, remote, or other included components.
  • Identify the headrail and attachment system: a wooden rail with bolt slots and wing nuts uses a different connection from a clip-in rail. Match the supplied brackets to the rail before marking any holes.
  • Identify the mounting surface and select suitable fasteners where product instructions require surface-specific hardware.
  • Do not substitute a generic bracket position or depth requirement for the product-specific instructions.

Stop if anything is missing or different. Photograph the package and parts, then contact Fredesigner support before drilling.

Step 2

Mark the product-specific bracket positions

Use the selected product's bracket layout. The diagrams below show the difference between mounting surfaces; they do not replace the supplied spacing, depth, or fastener instructions.

Inside mount

Locate the upper internal mounting surface and confirm the product's required depth and clearances.

Locate the face or trim mounting surface and confirm the product's bracket offsets and clearances.

Step 3

Secure the brackets, then attach the shade

  • Check the marked line again before fixing brackets to the mounting surface.
  • Install each bracket with the orientation and fasteners stated for the exact product.
  • Support the shade evenly while aligning its headrail or attachment points.
  • For a wooden headrail with bolt slots, align the slots with the supplied bracket bolts and secure the specified washers and wing nuts while supporting the shade.
  • For a clip-in headrail, engage the rail with its matching brackets and close the locking clips in the sequence shown in the supplied instructions.
  • Verify every attachment point before release. Use the instructions for your actual headrail; the two attachment methods are not interchangeable.

Large or heavy treatments may require another person. Keep the treatment supported until all product-specific locks or clips are fully engaged.

Step 4

Test movement, stopping points, and controls

  • Move the shade through a short test first and watch the fabric, headrail, brackets, and travel path.
  • For manual products, confirm smooth movement and the exact operating method supplied with the product.
  • For motorized products, follow the product-specific charging, pairing, remote, limit, and control instructions.
  • Stop immediately if the shade binds, tilts, contacts trim or handles, or if any bracket moves.

Do not force the shade. Recheck bracket alignment and the selected product's troubleshooting instructions before another test.

Final check

Confirm a secure, clear, and repeatable installation

  • Every bracket, clip, lock, stop, and cover is secure.
  • The treatment is level and its travel path is clear.
  • Manual or motorized controls operate as described for the product.
  • Safety components and cord management are installed where supplied or required.
  • Instructions, spare parts, photos, and order information are retained.
