Find your measuring path
Choose the mount style, record the window dimensions, and review the values before opening the Roman shade collection.
Mount style
Where will the shade sit?
Choose the intended mount. An inside mount needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for a standard headrail (2 1/2 inches for motorized shades); with less depth, choose an outside mount.
Inside mount sits within the opening. Outside mount covers the opening and mounts to the surrounding surface.
Width
Record the window width.
Use a metal tape. Measure at the positions required by the exact product instructions and keep every raw measurement.
Enter the width exactly as measured. For an inside mount, the factory deducts 3/8 inch in production, so do not deduct it yourself.
Height
Record the window height.
Measure the full intended coverage at the positions required for the selected mount and product.
Check for handles, trim, tile, or other obstacles that may affect the mounting surface or travel path.

Record the opening before choosing an order size
Inside mount: keep the raw measurements
- Use a metal tape to measure inside the recess at the top, middle and bottom. Record all three widths to the nearest 1/8 inch.
- Measure the opening height at the left, center and right. Record all three heights; do not assume the opening is square.
- Measure the usable depth at the mounting surface. Exclude handles, locks, projecting trim and other obstructions from the clear space.
- Match the exact shade, headrail, brackets, lift and installation method. A standard headrail needs at least 2 inches of flat depth and a motorized shade 2 1/2 inches; a fully recessed fit needs more.
- For an inside-mount order, enter exact opening measurements without subtracting anything. The factory deducts 3/8 inch from the width in production (on fabric Roman shades it comes off the headrail, not the fabric); do not deduct twice.
Inside-width example: widths of 36, 35 7/8 and 36 inches give a narrowest opening width of 35 7/8 inches. Enter 35 in the whole-inch width field and 7/8 in its fraction field, without subtracting another allowance. Keep all readings; ask support to check an uneven opening and the selected hardware before ordering.
Outside mount: measure the coverage you want
- Mark a secure mounting position above the opening, allowing for the headrail, brackets and raised fabric stack.
- Choose the left and right coverage edges, allowing for trim, handles and nearby walls. Measure the full distance between those edges.
- Measure from the planned mounting position to the desired lower edge. Check the exact product's height reference point before ordering.
Coverage example: a 36-inch opening plus 3 inches of planned overlap on each side gives 42 inches of coverage. A chosen mounting-to-lower-edge distance of 64 inches gives a 64-inch planned drop. These are example coverage choices, not required overlaps for every window.
Match the hardware before applying a depth or deduction

If the ordering rule or hardware depth is unclear, send support your product link, selected options, all measurements and window photos before ordering. Avoid converting an opening size into a finished size twice.
